Groovallegiance: P-Funk Mixtape
“P-Funk lore goes deep” said Black Bananas’ Jennifer Herrema in a recent interview about the musical influences that inspire her Bad Bunch Radio show on NQRA. She got that right.
In fact, so deep does P-Funk lore go (or “Zeep” as the P-Funk Mob themselves would put it—Z being at the depths of the A-Z of deepness) that it’s virtually impossible to plug you into every band formed from within the enormous and ever-shape-shifting crew assembled around leader George Clinton within a three-hour mix.
We’re gonna need a Volume 2 for that. (And maybe a volume 3.) What we can promise you is that, as far as Volume 1 P-Funk mixes go, this is the mothership and you just hit the mother load. We got Garrett Shider, Mico Wave, Trey Lewd, Junie, Sweat Band, Eramus Hall, Enemy Squad, Quazar, and more.
If you’re already a little bit of a P-Funk tourist, there’s plenty in here that you’re gonna know and love. But if you’re looking for something that goes way zeeper, this is not just knee deep, it is totally deep.
You will dance.
