Ben Chasny, Donovan Quinn, and James Toth are three musicians who know the value of a great-sounding record. As—respectively—Six Organs of Admittance, Western Extra, and Dunza, amongst other monikers, they’ve made enough of them. And one thing they’ve found over the years, is that there’s no right or wrong when it comes to engineering, mixing, or mastering a record.

Even though there are tens of thousands of YouTube videos out there telling people otherwise.

So they started a zine, not so much to set those YouTubers straight as to reassure everyone else that making mistakes can, often, be the best thing that can happen to you when recording music.

They interview DIY sound engineers (mainly musicians) about their techniques, happy accidents, and Eureka! moments, and then perfect bind those interviews into a beautiful physical artefact for you to thumb at leisure, away from the influence of those wicked algorithmic devil voices telling you, “there’s something wrong with your mix.”
