“Rockin’” Rian Murphy & The Smile Time Hour

“Rockin’” Rian Murphy has worked with music most of his life; in the beginning, before he even knew what ‘work’ was, he simply loved it, and he usually still does even today.

His alt-rock reject radio jock made a fleeting cameo in the age of grunge; this intemperate persona may be a fish out of water threading through these playlists, but he doesn’t appear to know it. The only limits and definitions begin and end with what finite set of records the ol’ DJ has to choose from.

His catch-phrase “might as well have a good time” is, of course, a frustratingly inconsistent position. The answer, it seems, lies either in music or time – one can take us higher, and with the other, even a broken clock can be right twice a day. He looks forward to rejoining the “radio circus” after nearly a quarter-century off the air.
