THE STORY OF RACCOON RECORDS
w/ Lowell “Banana” Levinger
In 1970, a few short years after their hit record “Get Together”, The Youngbloods’ RCA contract came to an end. It was at this point that Warner Bros. Records came calling and on the table was a deal offering the band something very few of their contemporaries were yet to enjoy—their very own label.
Over the next two years, Raccoon Records, as the label came to be known, released some of the most humble, weird, and enduring roots rock, folk, bluegrass, and jazz of the 1970s. In The Story of Raccoon Records, we talk to Youngbloods electric piano and guitar player Lowell Levinger aka Banana about the development of the label, the incredible artists who populated its records, and its enduring legacy.
